Where does the money go?
COA works with a minimal staff (equivalent to 6 full time people) and
over 100 volunteers including our management committee, meal
deliverers, many of our office staff, our in house catering team, our
Nursing Home visiting group, conveynors of activities and the list is
endless. All services offered at the centre - entertainments, transport to and from the centre, groups, outings, classes and activities - are heavily subsidized by the COA. The price of a Kosher Meals-on-Wheels meal to recipients is actually 1/2 of the cost to COA for preparation, administration and petrol reimbursements for our volunteer deliverers. Over 4700 meals were delivered in 2007 alone.
We also serve lunches in the centre which are charged at $2 and have been for over 10 years – this price is approximately 1/2 of COA’s expenditure in ingredients and preparation. During winter, soups are offered as well as the normal lunch for no extra charge. These soups are paid for by COA and prepared by volunteers.
The Shopping Project is a new venture which is proving beneficial to a select group in our community – those who suffer mobility issues and financial hardship. A support worker (paid for by COA) takes the client shopping with a $50 voucher for essential food items (also paid for by COA). This is a very costly service which was generously founded and funded by a Major Donor. After 12 successful months the initial donation ran out, but COA’s management committee decided to continue offering this highly subsidized service as it is so necessary to those using it.
Major Donors
All our donors deserve praise, from those individuals who have been
routinely sending along $20 a year, to those who have allowed us to
introduce and maintain our essential services. Below is a list of the
some of the donors who have made such a difference to the quality of
life for Jewish Seniors:Jack Krygier: Bought our first COA bus, and supported our major function of the year – our Chanuka Luncheon Concert. He left a codicil in his Will to ensure the Chanuka Luncheon would continue for years to come.
Julius & Lita Nadel: Ongoing sponsors of the Kosher Meals on Wheels delivery service providing the administrative support and physical needs for safe delivery of meals.
Philip & Nora Frankel: Apart form many very generous donations they have donated computers for our “Lab”, designed and paid for our “Tree of Life” and gave the original idea and funding for our “Shopping Project”.
How to make donations
Making a donation to COA is easy – simply call COA with your credit
card details or send cheques payable to “COA”. Any amount is
appreciated, no matter how small. Thanks to minimal staff, the vast
majority of donations go directly to the subsidizing of services to the
frail and aged.Download a donation form HERE
