Social Support & Community Outreach Services

To ensure seniors are fully supported in their own homes we provide social support programs. These outreach services provide a friendly and personal way for members to communicate their changing service needs to us, and allows us to informally monitor changes in their home conditions or health.

STAYING IN TOUCH - PHONE MONITORING

Regular phone calls are made by volunteers to isolated, ill or house-bound members, offering support and a friendly ear to the Jewish elderly and unwell. The service is designed to minimise isolation, keep members in touch with our organisation and provide necessary face to face support on demand. Follow-up visits are conducted by our social workers to fully assess client needs.

HOSPITAL VISITORS SCHEME

COA volunteers visit hospitalised members to provide emotional support, to wish our seniors a speedy and quick recovery, and to report to social workers any potential needs for support when members go home from hospitalisation.

HOME VISITING SCHEME - TEA FOR TWO

Social workers match up COA visiting volunteers with frail and housebound members for a friendly catch up each week. Volunteers do not undertake any cleaning or personal care tasks their whole attention s on providing a regular social outlet for housebound members.

CANDLE LIGHTING AT NON-DENOMINATIONAL NURSING HOMES

COA Volunteers visit Jewish residents of non-Jewish Nursing Homes, celebrating Shabbat and Jewish festivals with them. They light candles, provide traditional foods and entertainment and bring yiddishkeit into the lives of people confined to Nursing Homes.
